About Us

Starting in 1995, we decided to try our hand at farming….on a small scale.  Under the name of Pruitt’s Little Farm (creative or what?), Michael and I first planted over 5 acres of Christmas trees.  It turned out to be a LOT more work than either one of us bargained for…constantly pulling and battling weeds & vines that threatened to choke thousands of baby tree seedlings, then mowing and hand shearing (pruning to shape) in 100+ degree heat while fighting off every bug known to mankind!  That doesn’t even include the constant replanting due to loss from weather (mostly drought) and deer.  Christmas trees take a long time to grow too, 8 to 14 years.  It certainly wasn’t the easy crop we envisioned!  We learned the hard way that there is no easy farming!

About the same time we first planted trees, we also started collecting any horse and cow manure we could get our pitch forks in, and over the next few years created a fertile and fenced garden area where I could start growing things to sell at local farmers’ markets.  Soon after, Michael built a barn, which quickly became home to a “few” chickens.  Adamant that they be raised humanely…these chicks were totally pampered and free to roam throughout the farm.  I sold eggs not only at the farmers’ markets, which were seasonal, but also at IGA (Food Plus), Crooked Run Orchard, the Legends Restaurant and Healthy by Nature.  After the closing of IGA, an important year round egg market, the flock was divided amongst three other local free range chicken farms.  I continued participating in local farmers’ markets by starting to make and sell uniquely crafted soaps, many containing various herbs grown in my garden.  In the summer of 2005, we opened up the Christmas tree “manger” on an honor system, selling garden goods and handcrafted soap.  It has been a hit with our friends and neighbors!

Again, thanks for visiting Pruitt’s Little Farm!  We look forward to seeing old and new friends this year, and are located in Loudoun County, Virginia…right outside the Town of Round Hill at 16477 Woodgrove Road:

Directions from Leesburg, travel Rt. 7 west towards Winchester, then take the Round Hill/Purcellville exit.  Bear right onto Rt. 7 business and follow into the Town of Round Hill (don’t blink!).  Turn right at the Amoco Station onto Main St., which is also Rt. 719 north AND Woodgrove Rd.  Go ~1.8 miles and you will see our farm sign, Pruitt’s Little Farm, and entrance on the left.
